According to supply chain sources, the development progress of TSMC's 3nm process in Nanke has not been affected by the epidemic. It is currently expected to enter the site at the end of June and officially enter the risky trial production stage in the third quarter. The previously announced progress is comparable.
And just after TSMC’s 3-nanometer enters the risky trial production stage, the estimated monthly production capacity will be about 10,000 to 20,000 pieces, and it will be increased to about 50,000 to 60,000 pieces per month by the middle of 2022, of which the vast majority The production capacity will be used by major customer Apple to produce Apple's next-generation processors. By 2023, it is expected that the production capacity will be further expanded to 105,000 pieces per month.
According to TSMC’s previous statement, compared with the current 5-nanometer process, the logic density of the 3-nanometer process will increase by 1.7 times, the computing speed will increase by 11%, and the computing power consumption can be reduced by 27%. After entering the mass production stage, TSMC’s 3nm technology will be the most advanced technology in the industry in terms of PPA (efficiency, power consumption and area) and transistor technology. Therefore, TSMC is confident that its 3 nanometer technology will become another important and long-lasting technology.
In addition to the progress of the 3-nanometer process on schedule, there was also previous news that TSMC also plans to expand the production capacity of the 5-nanometer process throughout 2021 to meet the growing needs of major customers.
As for the expansion of production capacity, it is estimated that starting from the first half of 2021, the production capacity will be increased from 90,000 pieces per month to 105,000 pieces per month, and it is planned to further expand the production capacity to 120,000 pieces per month in the second half of 2021. . In addition, by 2024, TSMC’s 5-nanometer process will reach a scale of 160,000 pieces per month. As for customers who use TSMC’s 5-nanometer process, it will include AMD, MediaTek, Xilinx, Marvell, Broadcom and Qualcomm.
Not affected by the epidemic, TSMC’s 3-nanometer process progress will begin installation at the end of June
