The tight supply of automotive chips has not improved significantly, and most of the world's automakers have responded with production cuts and shutdowns. Japanese car manufacturers are not immune. Following Toyota Motor, Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors, and Suzuki will all implement further production cuts in June.
According to MoneyDJ reports, Japanese automakers are expanding their production cuts. Among them, Nissan Auto’s Kyushu (Kyushu Plant for short), which has already reduced production in April and May, will suspend operations for 3 days on June 24, 25, and 28, and the Tochigi Plant will be suspended from June 1 to 18. Day shift production will be suspended during the date. The Obihama plant will cancel all night shift production in June. The joint venture plant in Mexico and Daimler will also cease production of the QX50 model. Compared with the April plan, Nissan will reduce production by approximately 29,000 units in June.
Mitsubishi Motors has already reduced production at the Okazaki, Mizushima, and Thailand plants in May, and is expected to reduce production by 16,000 units. At the same time, the scale of production reduction will be expanded in June. The target of production reduction will be the additional subsidiary PAJERO and the Indonesian plant. It is expected that production will be reduced by 30,000 units in June, and the scale of production reduction will increase by nearly 90% compared with May.
In addition, Suzuki Motor has notified parts manufacturers that its factories in Japan will implement production cuts for three consecutive months in June. Among them, the Sagara plant will be suspended for 9 days from June 1 to 11, the Pantian plant will be suspended for 5 days from June 1 to 7 and the first production line of the Huxi plant will be suspended for 3 days from June 2 to 4. The second production line of the Huxi Plant will be suspended for 5 days from June 1 to 7.
Japanese automobile industry leader Toyota Motor announced on May 18 that due to the shortage of chip supply, its two factories and three production lines in Japan will be suspended and reduced production measures in June. The first production line of the Iwate Plant of Toyota Motor East Japan, a subsidiary of Toyota, will be suspended for 8 days from June 7 to 14 and June 21 to 22. The second production line of the Iwate Plant will be Work will be suspended for 5 days from June 9th to 15th, and the Miyagi Ohiro Plant will be suspended for 3 days from June 9th to 11th. The above production reduction measures are expected to cause a loss of sales of 20,000 vehicles for Toyota.
The Japanese media Kyodo News Agency pointed out that this is the first time that Toyota's domestic factories in Japan have suspended work and reduced production due to chip shortages. Although the auto industry has successively reduced production before, Toyota has not been significantly affected by its strong purchasing capabilities. This time even Toyota could not evade it, again showing the severity of the chip shortage.
