Samsung Electronics expands its "green chip" product lineup to cover storage and automotive fields

Feb 02 70
Samsung Electronics announced today that five of its storage products have received global recognition for successfully reducing carbon emissions, and another 20 storage products have obtained carbon footprint certification. Samsung's automotive LED packaging has also obtained carbon footprint certification, which is the first time in the automotive LED packaging industry, further expanding Samsung's ecologically conscious "green chip" portfolio.

Five Samsung storage products include HBM2E (8GB), GDDR6 (8Gb), UFS 3.1 (512GB), portable SSDT7 (1TB), microSD EVO Select (128GB)-recently received the "Reducing CO2" label from the Carbon Trust. The previous version of these five products was certified by the Carbon Trust Fund for'CO2 Measurement' last year. The Carbon Trust recently also certified the product carbon footprint of 20 memory products and affixed them with the'CO2 Measured' product carbon footprint label.

The Carbon Trust is an independent expert organization partner that advises companies on opportunities in a sustainable, low-carbon world. The Carbon Trust also certifies the environmental footprint of organizations, supply chains, and products.

The carbon dioxide reduction label proves that the product's carbon emissions have been reduced. Samsung can reduce the carbon emissions of five memory products by improving production efficiency. This means that each chip uses less electricity and raw materials. For the portable solid-state drive T7 (1TB), Samsung uses environmentally sustainable paper instead of plastic as packaging material to minimize the carbon emissions of the product.

Samsung estimates that these five products will reduce carbon emissions by about 680,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the release of these five products to July 2021, which is equivalent to the greenhouse emissions of 11.3 million urban saplings growing for 10 years or 149,000 cars driving for a year. gas.

Before a product can be certified for carbon emission reduction, its current carbon footprint must be verified in order to set a starting line for measuring changes in the carbon footprint. The carbon dioxide measurement label verifies the current carbon emissions of the product in accordance with the globally recognized standard (PAS 2050). Therefore, 20 Samsung memory products with CO2 measurement tags have now set benchmarks for future carbon emissions reductions.

The carbon footprints of the four C series 3W automotive LED packages produced by Samsung-Gen3 (third generation) 3W white light, Gen3 3W amber, Gen2 (second generation) 3W white light and Gen2 3W amber-have been verified by UL and comply with ISO 14064-3 standard. Samsung's C-series 3W automotive LED packages are therefore regarded as energy-saving products. They consume less power while generating more light output. They reduce the carbon emissions of cars by improving energy efficiency and ensure that electric cars are charged at one time. There will be longer mileage afterwards.
