Qualcomm Ammon: The semiconductor foundry capacity has been pushed to the limit, and the future will be diversified

Feb 02 79
According to reports, the US chip giant Qualcomm has been fighting with companies such as Apple and Broadcom for a long time, and it has also fought with antitrust enforcement agencies in the United States and other countries.

Recently, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon (Cristiano Amon) accepted an interview through the video conferencing tool Zoom. He said 5G will bring an opportunity to connect everyone and everything to the cloud 100 percent of the time. Qualcomm sees the acceleration of digital transformation around the world, which any company is going through, and this transformation has led to the current crisis in the semiconductor supply chain.

He believes that in the next decade, Qualcomm will diversify, and in the cloud universe and the automotive market, the market size opportunity it faces is as much as seven times the current $100 billion.

Anmon said that Qualcomm has pushed the capacity of semiconductor foundries to the limit. He said that Qualcomm is a rare company in the global semiconductor industry, that is, from the perspective of chip design, it can promote the use of the most advanced chip production technology by foundries. In this way, Qualcomm has become a favored client of foundry companies.

Anmon said that Qualcomm faces the risk of survival and must be brave enough to gamble. He likened the fierce competition in the technology industry today to the cruel world in ancient Rome. "Especially now, it seems to be a gladiatorial arena. You enter, you have to be ready to enter the arena at any time (life and death)."

"The result is one of three, you win, you lose, or both," he said. "If you win, you get thrown into the arena again."
