On May 10, according to the Taiwanese media "Economic Daily", in the first quarter of 2022, the output value of Taiwan's semiconductor industry was NT$1.15 trillion, an increase of 4.8% quarter-on-quarter and 28.1% year-on-year (year-on-year). The International Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Industrial Technology Research Institute estimates that the output value in the second quarter is expected to further climb to NT$1.19 trillion, a quarterly increase of 2.8% and an annual output value of 19.4%.
According to the report, thanks to the strong market demand for commercial, e-sports notebook computers and automobiles, IC design and IC manufacturing plants generally delivered brilliant results in the first quarter of operations. According to statistics from the International Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Industrial Technology Research Institute, the output value of Taiwan's IC design industry in the first quarter reached NT$330 billion, a quarterly increase of 3.9% and an annual increase of 26.8%.
Including TSMC, UMC, World Advanced and Power Semiconductor, the production capacity was fully loaded in the first quarter, and the performance reached a record high. According to statistics from the Institute of Obstetrics and International Studies of the Industrial Technology Research Institute, the output value of Taiwan's IC manufacturing industry in the first quarter reached NT$666.7 billion, a quarterly increase of 8.7% and an annual increase of 33.3%.
In addition, although the output value of the IC packaging industry and IC testing industry declined in the first quarter compared with the fourth quarter of last year, they still achieved an output value of NT$110 billion and NT$52.5 billion, an increase of 11.8% and 14.1% over the same period last year. Overall, the output value of Taiwan's semiconductor industry in the first quarter reached NT$1.15 trillion, a quarterly increase of 4.8% and an annual increase of 28.1%.
According to the report, thanks to the still strong market demand for automobiles, the capacity utilization rate of wafer foundries such as TSMC will remain fully loaded in the second quarter, and the performance is expected to continue to rise. The International Institute of Obstetrics and Technology of the Industrial Technology Research Institute estimates that the output value of the IC manufacturing industry will increase by 1.6% in the second quarter.
The International Institute of Obstetrics also estimates that the output value of the IC design industry in the second quarter will also increase by 5.5% compared with the first quarter, and the output value of the IC packaging and testing industry in the second quarter will increase by 1.8% and 2.9% respectively. The output value of Taiwan's semiconductor industry in the second quarter will reach NT$1.19 trillion, a quarterly increase of 2.8%.
In addition, Obstetrics International estimates that the output value of Taiwan's semiconductor industry this year is expected to reach NT$4.87 trillion, an increase of 19.4%, slightly higher than the original estimate of 17.7%. The output value of the IC design industry will increase by 14% this year, maintaining the original forecast. The output value of IC manufacturing is expected to grow by 25.4% this year, higher than the original estimate of 22.3%.
As for the output value of the IC packaging industry this year, Obstetrics International estimates that it will increase by 8.5%, which is lower than the original estimate of 9.1%. The output value of the IC testing industry will increase by 9.6% this year, which is higher than the original estimate of 8.4%.
The output value of Taiwan's semiconductors in the first quarter increased by 28.1% year-on-year, and is expected to increase by 19.4% to NT$4.87 trillion for the whole year
