In response to the shortage of talents, South Korea will formulate a support plan for talent training in cutting-edge fields such as semiconductors

Feb 02 96
According to a report by Yonhap News Agency on June 15, in order to cultivate talents in the semiconductor industry and grasp the demand for various talents in the semiconductor field, the Ministry of Education of South Korea held the first meeting of the “Special Group for Talent Cultivation in Cutting-edge Industries such as Semiconductors” jointly held by the government and the public on the same day. The special group will be responsible for discovering , negotiating policy issues for personnel training in cutting-edge fields such as semiconductors.

The South Korean Ministry of Education said that it plans to collect various opinions and formulate a "support plan for talent training in advanced fields such as semiconductors" next month.

Huang Zhecheng, a professor at the Department of Materials Engineering of Seoul National University, said at the meeting that in the 10 years from 2023 to 2032, the Korean semiconductor industry will lack 5,565 talents such as masters and doctors, of which system semiconductors account for 38%, engineering equipment accounts for 30%, and materials account for 22%. %, storage semiconductors account for 10%, etc. At the same time, he pointed out that simply increasing the enrollment of semiconductor-related disciplines cannot be an effective countermeasure. At present, there are very few professors who can train these semiconductor talents, and there is a lack of basic educational facilities such as research equipment.
