From June 6th to 10th, the 96th plenary meeting of the International Communication Standards Organization 3GPP was held in Hungary. The meeting announced that the 5G Rel-17 standard was officially frozen, which marked the official completion of the second evolution of 5G. into a new stage.
It is understood that 3GPP RAN started the research and formulation of the R17 standard in the second quarter of 2020, and it was finally completed after 2 years and 3 months. R17 gradually matures more 5G system enhancements and continues to expand 5G to new terminals, applications and commercial deployments. At the same time, as the last version of the first phase of the 5G standard, the freezing of the R17 standard also means that 3GPP's standard-setting work for 5G-Advanced will be in full swing.
As the 5G standard continues to evolve, its commercial space is also expanding. Through R17's efforts in commercial performance improvement, introduction of new features and exploration of new directions, 5G will enter more application scenarios and have a closer connection with our daily life and work.
