GaN adds a new acquisition! Nano Micro Semiconductor acquires digital isolator maker VDD Tech

Feb 02 77
GaN company Navitas Semiconductor has announced the acquisition of VDD Tech, creator of advanced digital isolators for next-generation power conversion.

VDD Tech's digital isolation technology is understood to be critical to enabling size, weight and system cost improvements in high-power markets such as consumer electronics, motor drives, solar, data centers and electric vehicles (EVs). Its proprietary modulation technology enables stable, reliable, and efficient power conversion at MHz+ switching speeds.

VDD Tech was founded by Vincent Dessard in Mont-Saint-Guibert, Belgium, and was soon joined by Aimad Saib, both with PhDs and over 15 years of experience in analog/mixed-mode IC development. Dessard and Saib hold leadership positions within Navitas' senior R&D team.

Dessard said it was great to see two breakthrough technologies—optimized digital isolators and GaN power ICs—combined to provide this leading high-power solution, adding that high speed and reliability are key factors in accelerating the wide-bandgap The adoption of semiconductors on traditional silicon chips, and we are excited to be the catalyst for this once-in-a-lifetime revolution, with new high-power products launching in 2023.

Navitas CEO and co-founder Gene Sheridan said that VDD Tech's isolation technology is a key part of our growing power and control integration strategy, creating an additional $1B/year market opportunity. We will continue to research and review new technologies that can enhance NanoMicro's core strengths and deliver significant CO2 reduction benefits as we continue our mission to "Electrify Our World".
