On August 31, according to Nikkei Asia, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey visited Taiwan on Wednesday with the aim of promoting cooperation in semiconductor and other technologies and security.

Doug Ducey said he will meet with TSMC executives. The company, the world's leading foundry chip maker, is building a $12 billion factory in Arizona.

During the visit, Ducey will also meet Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen and business leaders from major high-tech manufacturing companies, a spokesman for his office said. He also plans to visit South Korea as part of the delegation's five-day itinerary.

Bilateral trade between Arizona and Taiwan currently totals $1.92 billion, and trade with South Korea totals $882 million, according to the governor's office.

According to the report, Ducey played an active role in getting TSMC to build a factory. The TSMC plant in Arizona is expected to start production in 2024.

"Arizona has a close trade relationship with Taiwan. More than 100 Taiwanese companies have invested in Arizona, most of them in semiconductor, aerospace, electronic components, computers and related services," Taiwanese authorities said in a statement express.
