Memory industry production reduction affects the momentum of silicon wafer manufacturers to pull goods

Feb 02 129
According to Taiwan's Economic Daily, the global memory industry has witnessed a surge of production reduction and a sharp cut in capital expenditure, which has helped reverse the oversupply of memory in the market. The demand for upstream silicon wafers will also be greatly reduced, which is unfavorable to the future market of silicon wafer suppliers such as Huanqiu, TSEC and Hejing. Silicon wafer manufacturers frankly said that the poor market situation of memory had a real impact on the momentum of silicon wafer shipping.

According to the analysis of the industry, the capacity utilization rate of the wafer factory producing logic chips tends to fluctuate. The memory factory mainly produces standard products. In most cases, it operates with full load, which is the most stable and large shipment source of the silicon wafer factory. As a result, memory factories have slowed down investment and even reduced production.

At present, the market situation of logic chips and memories is not good. At the end of the third quarter, the market situation of 8-inch silicon wafers turned sharply downward. This quarter may spread to 12 inch silicon wafers related to memories, and it will be extended to 12 inch silicon wafers applied to logic chips at the beginning of next year. Some silicon wafer fabs have agreed to some downstream long-term customer requirements, which can be delayed. Industry insiders believe that the impact on second - and third line silicon wafer fabs may be greater than that on first-line manufacturers.

The silicon wafer factory frankly said that according to the current market situation, it is estimated that customers will come to negotiate to delay the delivery of goods, and basically hope that customers will deal with other non long-term parts first, and have to talk about long-term parts again. However, there is still no concession in the contract price. At the low point of the last semiconductor cycle, the industry only agreed with the customer to delay the delivery of goods and did not agree to reduce the price.
