The decision affected its long-term partners, AMD and IBM, which subsequently announced that it would use TSMC's 7-nanometer process to build its next-generation processor, and now IBM announced the use of Samsung's 7-nanometer process.

IBM and the Samsung fab have signed an agreement to manufacture its next-generation processor using Samsung's 7-nm EUVL process, which will be used in IBM Power Systems, IBM z and LinuxONE Systems. IBM's previous partner was GlobalFoundries, and earlier this year GlobalFoundries unexpectedly announced that it would abandon the development of the 7-nm process.
The decision affected its long-term partners, AMD and IBM, which subsequently announced that it would use TSMC's 7-nanometer process to build its next-generation processor, and now IBM announced the use of Samsung's 7-nanometer process.
