NVIDIA confirms that the next generation GPU will be manufactured by Samsung Electronics

Feb 02 65
According to the "Korea Herald" website, Nvidia confirmed today that it has reached a cooperation agreement with Samsung Electronics to produce next-generation graphics processing units (GPUs) for its foundry.

It was previously reported that NVIDIA plans to rely on Samsung Electronics to produce the next generation of GPUs. Today, YoneEung-joon, head of NVIDIA's Korea operations, confirmed at a press conference in Seoul that NVIDIA's next-generation GPUs will be produced by Samsung using the 7-nanometer EUV process.

YooEung-joon said: "Samsung's 7-nanometer manufacturing process will be used in our next-generation GPU production. This cooperation is significant. Until recently, Samsung has been working hard to find foundry partners."

Just a few weeks ago, it was speculated that Nvidia had chosen Samsung Electronics to produce GPUs instead of TSMC. According to the "Electronic Times" report, Nvidia has decided to use Samsung's 7-nm EUV technology to produce GPUs for it in 2020.

Today, YooEung-joon did not disclose the number of specific OEMs of Samsung. But he admits that the number will be "very impressive."

In addition, Nvidia also said that its efforts to acquire Israeli chip design company Mellanox have entered the final stage. In March of this year, Nvidia announced that it would acquire Mellanox for $125 per share in cash, with a total transaction value of approximately $6.9 billion.
