According to eeNews analog reports, Nowi BV has recently raised $ 10 million through a round of equity financing. This round of funding will be mainly invested in PMIC products, with a view to commercial production in 2020.
The funding was provided by Amsterdam-based venture capital firm Disruptive Technology Ventures (DTV).
It is understood that in 2018, DTV cooperated with the Dutch government to provide seed funding for Nowi to allow it to conduct technology research and development and helped it obtain multiple patents.
Nowi CEO Simon van der Jagt once said: "We will launch the first NW-A2.3 energy harvesting PMIC product in the first half of 2020, and then we will further expand our business activities."
Nowi said that it intends to use this round of funds to build a business model and widely use it in IoT applications and consumer devices such as smart watches and other wearables.
It is understood that in 2018 Nowi announced that it has integrated its technology into the MMT smart watch module, converting light energy into electricity, and powering new hybrid watches. Since then, Nowi has been able to prove that its technology can support the use of Huawei's narrowband IoT chips.
Nowi claims that its technology is compact and requires few external components compared to other methods. And it can use multiple energy sources (solar, mechanical, thermal and radio) simultaneously.
Van der Jagt said: "This is a new topology that requires fewer external components to achieve 80% to 90% conversion efficiency." He also noted that "the use of Nowi PMIC can reduce the number of external components by at least 15 Using these components may add an additional $ 1 to the bill of materials and an additional $ 1 PCB area. "
Van der Jagt said that one of the keys to success in IoT and consumer applications will be the ability to support frequent polling of energy through adaptive PMICs (even machine learning-type chips). It also needs to develop more uses to meet market demand.
