South Korea ’s export performance has been sluggish. However, the latest customs data show that South Korean exports have shown a slight rebound recently. In the first 10 days of December, the export value increased by 7.7% compared with the same period last year, but the export value of semiconductors in key industries still fell by 23.4% compared with the same period last year.
Yonhap News Agency reported that according to the latest data released by the General Administration of Customs of Korea, South Korea ’s total exports from December 1 to 10 were US $ 12.9 billion, an increase of US $ 920 million or 7.7% over the same period last year, reversing the decline in previous months. . The main growth momentum comes from the market demand for wireless devices and passenger cars.
Divided by the type of exported goods, the value of wireless equipment exports increased by 18% from December 1 to 10, the best performance. However, compared with the same period of last year, the export value of semiconductors in key industries still fell sharply by 23.4%.
It should be noted that the semiconductor industry, as the lifeblood of the Korean economy, accounts for one fifth of the country's total exports. The year-on-year plunge of more than one-fifth means that South Korea's total exports may face a serious decline.
In fact, since December last year, South Korea ’s annual export growth rate has continued to decline, and the decline has even increased to double digits since June this year. At present, it has shown negative growth for 12 consecutive months. The Bank of Korea also pointed out that the total price of South Korean exports of goods is expected to decline by 10.2% in 2019 from last year, the largest decline since 2009 (13.9%).
