According to the Androidcentral report, in order to meet the 5G era, Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 865 and 765 chips, and is working hard in the 5G field. But this does not mean that 4G is gone. Some countries are not ready to transition to 5G. Because of this, Qualcomm has tailored a 4G chipset for markets such as India. However, Qualcomm said that these chips will still be launched in the United States and other markets around the world.
At a media event in New Delhi, Qualcomm announced the launch of three new chips: Snapdragon 720G, which focuses on gaming, Snapdragon 662, which targets the mid-range market, and Snapdragon 460, which is a low-end market.
All three chips support Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. It is worth mentioning that they are the first chips to support Indian NavIC satellite positioning system. In addition, artificial intelligence and image imaging functions have also been improved, and Qualcomm's strategy to provide differentiated products will continue.
Snapdragon 720G uses 8nm process and is designed as 8-core Kryo 465 (two 2.3GHz Cortex A76 cores and six 1.8GHz A55 cores) with a maximum frequency of 2.3GHz, integrated Adreno 618 GPU and better performance than Adreno on Snapdragon 712 616 increased by 15%, supports HDR10 games and so on.
The AI-accelerated DSP unit is Hexagon 692, the image ISP is Spectra 305L, the single camera supports up to 192MP, supports 4K 30FPS video recording, and can handle screen resolutions up to 2520x1080 (21: 9, 90 / 120Hz, 10-bit color depth).
In other respects, the Snapdragon 720G integrates the X15 LTE full Netcom baseband, and the downlink rate is up to 800Mbps (4x4 MIMO, 2CA). The flash memory supports UFS 2.1 or eMMC, the maximum memory is 8GB LP4X-1866, and QC4.0 fast charge is supported.
The Snapdragon 662 uses 11nm technology, four 2GHz Cortex A73 cores and four 1.8 GHz A53 core architectures. It is equipped with Adreno 610 GPU, integrated X11 baseband, and the speed is up to 390Mbps (2x2 MIMO). The main highlight of the Snapdragon 662 is the Spectra 340T ISP, which supports rear three cameras, single camera supports up to 48MP, and is compatible with HEIC photos and HEVC video formats.
In addition, the Snapdragon 662 supports 60Hz FHD + screen and QC 3.0 fast charge.
The Snapdragon 460 uses an 11nm process, with the same integrated baseband as the Snapdragon 662, but with a relatively low-performance AI engine. Its Spectra 340 ISP single camera supports up to 48MP and supports QC3.0 fast charging.
The first mobile phones equipped with Snapdragon 720G will be available in the first quarter of 2020. It is reported that Xiaomi will be one of the world's first manufacturers of Snapdragon 720G platform, and Realme will also release Snapdragon 720G products this year.
