Intel: The process returns to the two-year update cycle, and 7nm products will be launched next year

Feb 02 65

Today, Intel announced that Intel ’s innovation has returned to the two-year cycle. Intel said that the yield of 10nm products has increased significantly, and a series of new products will be launched in 2020. 7nm will realize the product launch in 2021 and provide a complete product portfolio in 2022.

Due to staying too long at 14nm, Intel has already lagged behind TSMC and Samsung in terms of nominal process technology. George Davis, Intel's chief financial officer, once said that before launching the 7nm process, Tiger Lake processors based on the 10nm + process will be upgraded through in-node processes to achieve exponential progress.

Davis predicts that Intel's 7nm node (probably equivalent to TSMC's 5nm) will re-level the industry development level by the end of 2021, and before that, this may have an impact on Intel's competitive position and performance.
