According to businessKorea, Samsung Electronics is negotiating with the Chinese government, hoping to send about 200 semiconductor engineers to China, so that the expansion plan of the second factory in Xi'an will proceed as scheduled.

Earlier, since 08:00 on March 28, China has banned all foreigners from entering China to prevent the entry of foreign cases. If the Chinese government agrees, this will be the first large-scale business trip for South Korean companies after the blockade in China. In addition, if the Chinese government grants Samsung Electronics permission, engineers will be subject to 7 to 14 days of quarantine according to their health status.

The Xi'an factory is the only overseas base of Samsung Electronics in the field of memory semiconductor production. In December of last year, Samsung Electronics stated that it would increase its US $ 8 billion investment in its chip factory in Xi'an, China to promote the production of NAND flash memory chips.

This is the second phase of the second phase of Samsung ’s flash memory chip project in Xi’an, with US $ 10.8 billion previously in the first phase. The total investment of the second phase project is 15 billion US dollars, the first phase investment is about 7 billion US dollars, and the second phase is 8 billion US dollars.

As early as 2017, Samsung had announced that it would invest US $ 7 billion in the Xi'an factory that produces NAND flash memory chips in the next three years.

It is reported that the second phase of the project is expected to be completed in the second half of 2021. After completion, it will increase production capacity by 130,000 pieces per month, with a new output value of 30 billion yuan.

In October last year, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang visited the Samsung Electronics Semiconductor Factory in Xi'an to encourage Samsung Electronics to expand investment.

Li Keqiang said that China will continue to open wider to the outside world, the Chinese market is vast, and the industry is moving from the low-end to the high-end, which contains huge business opportunities. China welcomes high-tech enterprises including Samsung to continue to expand investment in China. China will strictly protect intellectual property rights and treat all Chinese and foreign ownership enterprises registered in China equally.
