Global semiconductor sales in May reached 35 billion US dollars, an increase of nearly 6%

According to Digitimes comprehensive foreign news report, the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics Association (WSTS) predicts that despite the poor performance of industrial and automotive ICs, global semiconductor sales increased by nearly 6% in May to 35 billion U.S. dollars. Among them, global semiconductor annual sales will grow by only 3% in 2020, and then grow by 6% in 2021.

Reports show that globally, the growth rate in May increased by about 1.5% compared with April. The monthly increase in the Americas region is close to 2%, and the annual increase is 25%; the monthly increase in mainland China is 5.8%; and the decrease in Europe is 6%. Calculated based on total sales of USD 412 billion in 2019, WSTS predicts an annual increase of 3% to reach approximately USD 426 billion. For the Americas, this means an increase of 12.8%.

However, the report also pointed out that the above data failed to show the analogy, power chip and memory revenue differences. For example, Micron (Micron) recently announced a strong quarterly report, mainly due to the strong performance of its storage chips, SSD sales refreshed Micron records. But at the same time, sales of its memory and power chips for automotive and industrial applications have declined.

The report also quoted VSLI's view that analog and power ICs will continue to be suppressed due to the impact of industrial and automotive demand. In addition, Omdia said in early June that by 2020, sales of automotive power ICs will drop by 16% to approximately US$9 billion.
