TSMC responds to Japan’s proposal to invite local manufacturers to build chip factories: no plans for the time being, and future arrangements are not ruled out

According to techweb news, TSMC responded to media reports about Japan’s plan to invite factory establishments, saying that there is no relevant plan at present, but it does not rule out any future arrangements.

On the 19th, Yomiuri Shimbun reported that Japan intends to invite TSMC or other chip manufacturers around the world to join hands with Japanese domestic chip equipment suppliers to jointly build an advanced chip manufacturing plant.

The Japanese government hopes to use the expertise of global chip manufacturers to revitalize the backward domestic chip industry, because advanced chip technology has become the focus of solving national security issues.

According to sources, the Japanese government plans to provide a total of hundreds of billions of yen (equivalent to billions of dollars) in funds to overseas chip manufacturers participating in the program in the next few years.
