DDR5 will become mainstream in the next year, and many supply chain vendors will benefit from follow-up

Feb 02 63
On July 28th, after the Joint Electronic Equipment Engineering Committee (JEDEC) Solid State Technology Association announced information about the new memory specification DDR5 in mid-July, according to Korean media, DDR5 will be mass-produced by the end of this year and will become the main market force year by year. Analysts Said that in addition to Samsung and Hynix directly benefited, there are seven supply chain manufacturers that can also benefit accordingly.

The JEDEC Solid State Technology Association announced the DDR5 SDRAM standard this month. Among them, DDR5 has twice the bandwidth of DDR4, and the transmission rate can reach 6.4Gbps. The power consumption is nearly 8% less than DDR4.

According to a report from "Business Korea", after the DDR5 specifications are confirmed, Samsung, SK Hynix and related packaging and testing plants have a promising operating prospect. Analysts predict that DDR5 will begin mass production at the end of 2020, and a substantial growth is expected in 2021. The share of global memory in 2022 will surpass DDR4 and become the mainstream memory specification.

Taiwan media Juheng.com reported that analysts said that after the launch of the new DDR5 specifications, DRAM manufacturers Samsung and SK Hynix will directly benefit. DDR5 will be introduced by more brand manufacturers due to its high performance and low power consumption advantages. Computer and server products. In addition, since there will be no major upgrades to the DDR5 manufacturing process, with the support of high performance, it will be beneficial to increase the average selling price.

In addition to memory manufacturers, memory module manufacturers and testing equipment manufacturers can also benefit simultaneously. Analysts named Simmtech, a Korean module manufacturer, and testing equipment manufacturers UniTest and Exicon, as well as Taiwanese manufacturers Nanya Ke and PCB manufacturer Xinxing , Nissho Advantest and American Teradyne, analysts emphasized that these seven vendors were selected because of the significant revenue growth of the aforementioned vendors due to the migration of specifications during the past DDR3 to DDR4 conversion period.

According to previous reports from Jiwei.com, Micron also announced the launch of a comprehensive empowerment plan to be the first to provide the industry with technical resources, products and ecosystem partner support. This technology empowerment plan will provide product design, development and verification support for next-generation computing platforms equipped with DDR5 (the most advanced DRAM technology to date).

The empowerment plan announced this time is a continuation of Micron’s announcement of DDR5 RDIMM sampling in January this year. This empowerment plan will help the industry unleash the value of next-generation data-intensive applications. Companies that have joined Micron’s DDR5 technology empowerment program include Cadence (Chen Teng Technology), Montage (Lanqi Technology), Rambus, Renesas (Renesas Electronics) and Synopsys (Synopsys).
