The price of DRAM has risen sharply recently. The price index of DDR4 8GB memory has risen by about 7% from the bottom in early September to recently. Japanese semiconductor traders said that this should be related to Huawei's stockpiling after the ban.
Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported on Friday that the spot price of DRAM was affected by the COVID-19 epidemic and that it continued to fall since mid-March this year, and did not rebound until September. The spot price of the index product DDR4 8GB memory particles was around US$2.95 on September 11, and the spot price of DDR4 4GB memory particles with a smaller capacity was also around US$1.67, which was about 3% higher than at the beginning of the month.
The US government’s latest ban on Huawei will take effect on September 15. Currently, the world’s top three DRAM makers have indicated that they will stop supplying Huawei.
The industry believes that under the effect of the Huawei ban, the short-term operations of global memory factories will be affected. However, driven by the demand for 5G and AI, the capacity of servers and smartphones using DRAM and Flash is bound to increase again, so long-term operations are still expected Take a positive view.
Nan Chuanming, senior director of market research organization Omdia, believes that the DRAM price increase in September was only a short-term phenomenon, and it will stabilize in late September.
