According to the Economic Daily, Zeng Ruiyu, the research director of SEMI industry, said in a report at a press conference before the SEMI show that the growth of the semiconductor industry can be expected, but the uncertain factors may continue until 2021.
Benefited from the investment of logic and foundry in advanced process, the shipment of fab equipment is still showing a strong trend in 2020. SEMI has revised its 2020 global semiconductor equipment shipment forecast to 65 billion US dollars. Looking forward to 2021, with the recovery of storage spending and the support of the Chinese market, it is expected to bring further growth and hit a new high of US$70 billion.
Prior to this, SEMI announced that the amount shipped by North American semiconductor equipment manufacturers in August was as high as US$2.653 billion, a monthly increase of 3% and an annual increase of 32.5%. The data not only set a new high this year, but also a new high since May 2018. SEMI believes that as the epidemic continues, the demand for chips has increased sharply, including communications and IT infrastructure, personal cloud computing, gaming and medical electronic equipment, and other fields have promoted the increase in global fab equipment spending. It is estimated that the increase will reach 8% this year. The estimate was revised up for the third time this year.
