After the foundry leader TSMC (2330-TW) announced that it would build a 5-nanometer factory in Arizona, the topic of setting up a factory in the United States has always been the focus of the market, and TSMC’s deputy general manager of global government affairs Cleveland (Peter Cleveland) on LinkedIn The posting accidentally revealed that TSMC’s new US plant will be located in Phoenix, Arizona. In response, TSMC responded that it is actively preparing to set up a plant in the US, but has not yet made a final decision to build the plant.
Cleveland issued a statement that this week with Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and Phoenix City Mayor Kate Gallego on the topic of setting up a 5-nanometer fab, including city, state and federal officials, the pace of setting up the plant is consistent with TSMC.
Cleveland also said that TSMC’s goal is to strengthen the national economic security of the United States, consolidate the leadership of the US semiconductor industry, and create thousands of high-tech jobs in Phoenix.
In this regard, TSMC stated that it is actively preparing for its plant construction plan in the United States, and hopes that this project can provide better support to customers and partners and attract more global talents. However, it has not yet made a final plant construction decision.
At this year’s shareholders meeting, TSMC Chairman Liu Deyin called on the U.S. government to provide investment incentives for important technologies, otherwise the cost would be too high and manufacturers would not be able to survive. At that time, it was also revealed that the location of the plant had been determined, and the key to the decision was US subsidies. The US federal and state governments can ensure the gap in subsidy costs, and the gross profit margin of the US plant will be similar to that of the company as a whole.
