Dialog Semiconductor and Alps Alpine collaborate to develop automotive haptic control applications

Feb 02 70
November 2, 2020-Leading battery and power management, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and industrial IoT solutions provider Dialog Semiconductor (German Stock Exchange trading code: DLG) has announced its DA7280 The high-definition haptic control driver IC has obtained automotive-grade certification, and the IC has been selected by Alps Alpine, a leading manufacturer of automotive electronic components and in-vehicle information equipment, and will be combined with the company’s HAPTIC™ Reactor linear resonant actuator ( The latest product in the LRA) series is used together with Alps Alpine Heavy. The DA7280's automotive-grade certification and its combined use with Alps Alpine Heavy LRA will bring more innovative tactile control experience to automotive applications and fill in the shortcomings of other competing solutions.

DA7280 provides the lowest standby power consumption, while powering the most powerful LRA on the market, taking into account stability and immersive high-definition tactile control user experience. DA7280 combined with Alps Alpine Heavy can generate up to 15Gs of vibration force (100g mass), about 10 times the vibration force generated by most smartphones.

The combination of Dialog's technology and Alpine Alpine's LRA products can meet the needs of the accelerating trend of the automotive industry: the dynamic display control panel (multiple flat screens or a single giant flat screen) in the cockpit uses haptic technology to provide the driver with instant Feedback. This is not only a user-friendly aesthetic choice, but more importantly, a safety precaution.

According to the report, more than 1.3 million people die in road traffic accidents every year around the world, and other studies have shown that driver behavior and distraction of drivers are the main causes of accidents. Dialog's haptic control device is used in combination with Alps Alpine Heavy LRA to make the user interface of the car easier and more intuitive by providing a series of high-definition haptic experiences, reducing the distraction of the driver's attention, thereby helping the driver reduce risk.

Sean McGrath, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Connectivity and Audio Business Unit of Dialog Semiconductor, said: "Our cooperation with Alps Alpine will bring drivers a more powerful haptic control experience and improve driving safety. This haptic control solution reflects This is our shared commitment to continuous innovation and setting new standards for the automotive industry."

The Dialog haptic control driver IC provides design engineers with a simple and easy-to-use solution that helps them create a clearer haptic experience for drivers and passengers. The OTP function of the device also allows engineers to choose to drive the motor in hardware trigger mode without the need for software. In addition, the smaller size and lower BOM cost help OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers in the automotive industry to maximize the value of their systems.

Design engineers can use the standard circuits of DA7280 and Alps Alpine Heavy LRA, and flexibly customize the tactile control experience for OEM automotive customers. For example, enabling non-engineering UX designers of OEMs, ODMs, and Tier 1 automakers to deploy brand-specific haptic experiences throughout their fleet.
