Rated at 300V and 6A (22AWG wire – 24AWG is 5A, 26 is 4A) and known as the 9176-800 Series, operation is across -40°C to +125°C. 28AWG versions are in development.
The metal part is fatigue resistant phosphor bronze and the wire can be stranded or solid. Once operated, the connection is redundant (dual), gas tight and cold welded, claims the firm.
According to the data sheet, durability is one wire installation cycle, however AVX has subsequently said: “every connector in the series is rated for three-cycle durability”.
After operation, the connectors can be potted or over-molded to encapsulate electronic modules and provide environmental protection.
They come in one, two, three and four-position versions, with the one way version available in eight colours to match wire colours and potentially reduce operator error.
The connectors are surface-mounted to pads just over 2.5mm square, which provide electrical connection and mechanical anchorage.
Through-connection is possible for daisy-chaining
High-reliability applications are expected for power and signal connections in harsh-environment industrial, medical, and transportation applications including: smart metering, sensors, building controls, portable monitoring and measuring devices, point-of-sale equipment, handheld inventory management devices, security systems, patient monitoring equipment, and LED lighting.
The integral, glass-filled nylon 46 cap is compliant with UL94 V-0 and designed for automated pick-and-place assembly. UL approval is expected this month.
