On December 7, 2020, Qualcomm Technologies and NTT DOCOMO announced today that the two parties have jointly implemented the world's first commercial use of 5G Sub-6GHz carrier aggregation in Japan, which can bring multi-gigabit mobile experience to DOCOMO users from now on. Through the deployment of 5G carrier aggregation, a key technology in the 5G specification, users will be supported to enjoy enhanced performance experience in DOCOMO's rapidly expanding 5G network.

Based on DOCOMO’s new 5G network and some terminals equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 865 mobile platform, Snapdragon X55 5G modem and radio frequency system, users can enjoy mobile network download speeds of up to 4.2Gbps, which is currently the fastest mobile network rate in Japan . The service is based on 5G Sub-6GHz carrier aggregation, using DOCOMO's diverse spectrum resources to aggregate 100MHz bandwidth carriers in the n78 frequency band and 100MHz bandwidth carriers in the n79 frequency band to improve 5G performance and network capacity.

The deployment of 5G Sub-6GHz carrier aggregation, together with the 28GHz 5G millimeter wave band that DOCOMO started commercial operation in September this year, will release the full potential of 5G and support DOCOMO's accelerated deployment in the 5G service area.
