According to TSMC’s official website, TSMC, a major foundry manufacturer, announced today that the company has won the 2021 IEEE Enterprise Innovation Award for its leading position in 7nm (7nm) semiconductor process technology.

It is reported that since TSMC's 7nm technology started mass production in April 2018, more than 1 billion high-quality dies have been manufactured for hundreds of products from dozens of customers.

Dr. Toshio Fukuda, President and CEO of IEEE, said: “IEEE congratulates TSMC on winning the 2021 Enterprise Innovation Award. The company’s achievements in developing 7nm technology and the achievements that enable IC designers everywhere to innovate have made it a great One of the selected organizations that have made lasting contributions to the engineering field and the world."

Dr. Mark Liu, Chairman of TSMC, said: “TSMC’s technological leadership, coupled with its foundry business model, means that TSMC’s 7nm technology marks the first time that the world’s most advanced logic technology has been provided as an open platform to the entire semiconductor industry. We are grateful. Winning the prestigious honor of IEEE has provided us with further inspiration to continue to find new ways to unleash our customers’ innovative capabilities."

In addition, TSMC revealed that in order to support customers with the broadest and most advanced technology portfolio, TSMC will spend approximately 8% of its revenue on research and development. In 2019, it invested US$2.96 billion in advanced logic processes, 3DIC system integration solutions and Dedicated processes and other fields.

Public information shows that IEEE is the world's largest professional association dedicated to the advancement of human technology. The organization was first established in 1985, and its prestigious annual corporate innovation award is designed to recognize companies, governments, or academic organizations that have outstanding innovations in fields of interest to IEEE.

In terms of advanced manufacturing processes, TSMC has always been at the forefront of the industry. In addition to mass production of 7nm in 2018, TSMC began mass production of 5nm process in the second half of this year, mainly for Apple's mass production of A14 and A14X processors, including AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, Intel, Broadcom, etc. will introduce the 5nm process to mass produce new generation products after next year. In addition, 3nm products will appear on the market in 2021, and mass production will begin in 2022.
