According to Reuters, Germany has asked relevant departments in Taiwan to help persuade Taiwanese manufacturers to help alleviate the core shortage in the automotive industry.
Due to semiconductor delivery problems, automakers around the world are closing assembly lines. In some cases, the sanctions imposed by former US President Trump on China have exacerbated the problem.
According to the report, the German Minister of Economy Peter Altmaier sent a letter to the relevant departments in Taiwan, China, requesting that the chip shortage be resolved during the talks with TSMC.
Altmaier expressed the hope that Taiwan will emphasize the importance of increasing semiconductor production capacity in the German automotive industry to TSMC. The goal is to increase semiconductor production capacity and delivery in the short and medium term. The German automobile industry is already in direct negotiations with TSMC on the transportation issue, and TSMC has put forward very constructive suggestions.
A spokesman for the German Ministry of Economic Affairs said that it is paying close attention to the format and is in consultation with the automotive industry on the issue. In order to reduce dependence on Asian suppliers and avoid similar problems in the future, the German government currently plans to provide more support to increase the production capacity of German and European semiconductors.
The Taiwanese government of China stated that it has begun consultations with chip suppliers in response to requests from other countries, asking them to provide comprehensive assistance. The relevant supply and demand situation is also closely related to the reduction of inventories in automotive chip factories in the off-season.
TSMC said in a statement that the shortage of chips in the automotive industry is very important to the company.
