The global wafer production capacity is out of stock. Gou Jiazhang, general manager of Hui Rong, a global flash memory control chip manufacturer, analyzes that this year’s wafer shortage is very serious, and it will definitely become more serious next year. He said: This problem is currently unsolved, but it must be resolved in the end There is only one key, which is that China and the United States finally succeeded in coordinating the trade dispute.
Gou Jiazhang said that there are currently not many foundries in the world, and the most important thing is that building a foundry requires huge capital, manpower, land, equipment, factories, and water that Taiwan also needs now. Gou Jiazhang said that if TSMC now has the resources to build a new plant, it will undoubtedly be to build a 3 or 5 nanometer advanced process. It is impossible to use so much and such a huge resource. Build mature manufacturing processes that are not profitable.
Gou Jiazhang emphasized that with the ability to produce advanced processes, but to build mature processes to meet the current global demand gap, no fab will do this. TSMC will not, and Samsung will not do it. Looking at it, only mainland China. The manufacturer will do this.
However, Gou Jiazhang further said that the capital, manpower, land, equipment, factory buildings, as well as water and electricity needed to build a foundry factory are available on these continents. At present, he is still willing to buy 28-nanometer equipment and produce 40-nanometer equipment. 55-nanometer wafers, but they can't buy production-related equipment alone, thus forming the current global dilemma, and important global wafer fabs have not invested in mature processes for more than 5 years.
Therefore, Gou Jiazhang believes that the problem of insufficient global wafer supply is very serious this year, but it will be more serious next year. This problem must wait until the important global companies fully digest all mature inventories, and further formation of some important companies’ operational difficulties. Forcing China and the United States to re-coordinate and open up trade, technology and equipment and other related issues, Gou Jiazhang believes that before this, the global wafer shortage problem cannot be effectively solved.
The global wafer supply is severely under-supply, and the chip manufacturer: The Sino-U.S. trade conflict improves can be effectively resolved
