Huawei, ZTE, and Hikvision are on the list! FCC identified five Chinese companies as threats to U.S. national security

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) determined on Friday local time that five Chinese companies pose a national security threat to the United States, including Huawei, ZTE, Hytera, Hikvision and Dahua Technology.

Reuters reported that a U.S. law in 2019 required the FCC to list telecommunications equipment vendors and service providers that "posed an unacceptable risk to U.S. national security."

FCC Acting Chairman Rosenworcel said in a statement: "This list will ensure that the United States will not use equipment from telecom operators that pose a threat to national security when building next-generation networks."

It is reported that the FCC put Huawei and ZTE on the "blacklist" last year and prohibited US operators from using US$8.3 billion in government funds to purchase equipment from these two companies.

In addition, the FCC asked US operators to dismantle Huawei and ZTE’s existing equipment in December last year, and formulated a compensation plan for this. The US Congress agreed to allocate US$1.9 billion to fund the plan.

Among the above five companies, Hikvision responded that the company strongly opposes the FCC's decision and is considering how to best resolve this unfounded determination.
