According to news on April 1, on March 31, local time, Micron Technology announced the financial report for the second fiscal quarter of 2021.
According to the financial report, Micron Technology’s revenue for the second fiscal quarter of 2021 was US$6.24 billion (approximately RMB 40.88 billion), a year-on-year increase of 30%; net profit was US$ 1.1 billion (approximately RMB 7.20 billion), equivalent to 98 cents per share.
Micron expects third-quarter revenues of US$6.9 billion to US$7.3 billion, exceeding market estimates of US$6.85 billion.
Sanjay Mehrotra, President and CEO of Micron Technology, said: "Micron’s strong performance in the second fiscal quarter reflects the rapidly improving market environment and continued robust execution. We have a strong focus on DRAM (memory chips) and NAND (flash memory). Chip) has a technological lead in the field, and is in a favorable position to provide new user experience and innovation levels throughout the data center."
Sina Technology pointed out that Micron Technology mainly produces chips for storing data (mainly memory and flash memory chips). The demand for such chips is growing rapidly against the background of the new crown pneumonia epidemic.
In an interview with the media, Micron CEO Mei Luoqun said that countries have begun to receive the new crown vaccine and the economy is slowly recovering, which means that the demand for memory chips will continue to remain strong and the tight supply situation will continue until next year.
Mei Luoqun also said that today's cars, servers and other equipment are equipped with more memory chips, and companies and consumers continue to buy network equipment, smart phones and other products in large quantities. These factors have stabilized the demand for memory chips in the market.
Micron Technology said that due to the tight supply, the price of DRAM memory chips has risen rapidly, and the tight supply will continue until the end of the year. However, the supply of NAND flash memory chips has exceeded demand.
Micron also talked about the company's water shortage caused by drought in a chip factory in Taiwan, China. It is currently taking water-saving measures and has obtained alternative water sources. So far, this problem has not affected Micron's memory chip production.
Micron’s second-quarter revenue increased by 30% year-on-year, and multiple factors stabilized memory chip market demand
