Smith Group: The semiconductor supply chain is too concentrated in Asia

Feb 02 56
According to "Financial Times" news, British industrial giant Smith Group CEO Andy Reynolds Smith (Andy Reynolds Smith) criticized the semiconductor supply chain is too concentrated in Asia. He warned that the supply chain may be disrupted due to the shortage of key semiconductor components worldwide.

"Asia has too much production." He said, "demand is growing nonlinearly, and recent prices have exposed the concentration of the semiconductor supply chain."

Renault Smith said he was worried about the impact of tight supply and rising chip prices on customers. However, he added that Smith Group has a "reasonable inventory" for its own use.

According to reports, the Smith Group’s business includes providing chip manufacturers with equipment to test the performance of semiconductors. The group reported that its revenue from semiconductor testing has grown substantially. This is because manufacturers have increased the production capacity of graphics chips and other microprocessors to meet the growing demand for notebook computers, data centers and game consoles during the epidemic.
