Car chips are hit again! TSMC Nanke P14 plant power outage affected 30,000 wafers

Feb 02 65
According to Taiwan media reports, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is located in Nanke's 14th plant, and a power outage was reported at noon today.

The industry estimates that 30,000 wafers of TSMC will be affected by this, and the loss amount will be less than NT$1 billion (about 230 million yuan).

Nank Tech pointed out that TSMC’s P14 plant was affected by today’s power outages. About 30,000 wafers will be affected. As to whether all of them will be scrapped, TSMC will need to wait for further evaluation. The 30,000 wafers depend on the process conditions at the time. Some of them should be rescued. In addition, TSMC has insurance, and the actual loss should be further reduced.

But for customers, it may not be good news, because the P14 factory mainly produces automotive electronic chips, and the supply of this type of chip has been tight for some time.

Regarding the power outage, TSMC also issued an emergency statement, “Due to the abnormality of the Nanke ultra-high voltage substation cable, the plant was out of power. The colleagues in the plant have no safety concerns and no personnel have been evacuated. At present, the diesel generators have been used to restore power and cooperate with Taipower to make every effort. Restore normal power supply".
